Line Up
Sa'ad featuring Dan Bray
10:00am - 11:30am @ Urbanfood Store & Café
Sa’ad (Saad Hafiz) grew up in South London. It was there that he cut his musical teeth on the sounds of house, 2-step garage and many other genres. He moved to Canberra shortly before high school and started producing electronic music, his biggest success to date coming last year with "Everytime" (BamBam Muzik), his debut single, which reached number 41 on the ARIA club charts. As a DJ, Sa'ad is defined by versatility and plays everything from deep house and disco to prog and electro. Sa'ad has played at Binara One, Tongue & Groove, Academy, Lot 33, and many other places, holding various DJ residencies in Canberra over the years. For his appearance at Music, Art and Food, Sa'ad is joined on saxophone by the inventive and adaptable Dan Bray (saxophone), who, together with Sa'ad will be creating a richly textured combination of chilled deep house grooves and funk jazz-influenced improvisation.
Dave, Bill & Ed
12:00pm - 1:30pm @ Urbanfood Store & Café
Dave, Bill and Ed love making music together. The trio always puts everything behind their live performances, where listeners can experience the excitement, energy and subtle interaction the trio offers, each and every time they perform. Made up of 3 best mates, the trio have been playing together since 2005, after meeting whilst studying jazz at the Canberra School of Music. Although now based in Sydney, the trio still manages to come down to Canberra on a semi-regular basis, and can, on occasion, be heard at a number of Canberra's most stylish venues, including Rydges, Belgian Beer Café, and NewActon's own Parlour Wine Room. The line-up consists of Ed Rodrigues (drums), Bill Williams (double bass) and Dave Rodriguez (guitar).
Damian Wright
4:00pm - 4:45pm @ Parlour Wine Room
Damian Wright is a Flamenco guitarist based in Sydney, Australia.
Damian originally began Flamenco study with Robbie Varga in Sydney, later moving to Spain where he spent 4 years studying with some of Spain’s most recognised maestros of the Flamenco guitar, including El Entri and Pepe Justicia. Having played support for such artists as Mamadou Diabate, Bebel Gilberto and string quartet "Fourplay", Damian currently performs in Australia with the Flamenco dance groups of Bandaluzia, Diana Reyes Flamenco and The Flamenco Crew, and fusion groups such as The Translators and Rasa Duende. In contrast to these groups, however, music lovers will experience Damian playing traditional flamenco in an intense 45 minute solo show.
Miroslav Bukovsky Quartet
5:00pm - 7:00pm @ Parlour Wine Room
ARIA award-winning trumpet/flugelhorn player Miroslav Bukovsky and his quartet “Mired Biluke” are an original music project based in Canberra. Though difficult to characterize the group's sound, at the end of the day they find themselves strongly grounded in the jazz idiom. This collaboration of musicians regularly employs the talents of Bill Williams (bass), Ed Rodrigues (drums) and Luke Sweeting (piano), however for this performance Luke's role will be filled by the impressive Dave Rodriguez (guitar). With a vast influence drawing from many facets of contemporary jazz, this eloquent ensemble explores the shades of beauty found in music. The group's sound is defined by its tasteful blend of genres, distinctive and lyrical melodies and playful ensemble interaction.
Max Williams and Imogen & The Waterboys will perform at Flint Dining Room & Bar at a later date, please check back here for details.
