FlipArt - Los Amigos Invisibles @ NewActon Courtyard

FlipArt's Exclusive Launch at NewActon featuring Los Amigos Invisibles and the HIghwire Circus - Invitation Only Event
Friday 12th March, 5pm @ NewActon

NewActon will see the launch of Flipart on the evening of Friday 12 March, with the debut of Highwire Circus' show 'A Little Bit of Bally-Hoo', an intimate circus with a distinctive Canberra feel, showcased in their brand new venue, 'The Bally'.

Latin Grammy award winners Los Amigos Invisibles will close Friday evening with their unique sound of Latin funk and electronic music at NewActon Courtyard. They'll be Latin America's hottest band to hit the Australian shores.

Los Amigos Invisibles formed in 1991. The Venezuelan band includes lead singer Julio Briceño and fellow band members Mauricio Arcas on percussion, Armando Figueredo on keyboard, José Rafael Torres on bass, José Luis Pardo and Juan Manuel Roura on guitar and drums. Discovered by David Byrne in New York City almost two decades ago, Los Amigos Invisibles has achieved success over eighteen years, visiting 60 countries, releasing six albums and winning a Latin Grammy in 2009 for their latest “Commercial” - the album that embodies their infectious blend of Latin rhythms, funk, disco and acid jazz. They have recorded and collaborated with the likes of Louie Vega, Dimitri from Paris and Masters at Work, and despite conquering the local club scene in Venezuela and playing important international festivals, they have not lost any of their enthusiasm for playing their brand of high-octane funk to live fans across the globe. The album “Commercial” stylishly captures the band’s inimitable sound that stands out among the “Latin” music staples of salsa and merengue, firmly establishing them in the musical vanguard of truly international cross-cultural music. “Cool and fiery all at once, they pack an inferno’s worth of disco combustion into every dance party!”(The Village Voice, USA). “These guys are the grooviest band on the planet… they’ve captured all the retro fun of 70’s funk and dance and the groove of Acid jazz, mixed up with electronica, added some of the musical flavour of their native Venezuela and produced a sound that makes you want to dance non-stop” (Austin City Limits Festival).
